Cervical cerclage is a procedure used to prevent miscarriage or preterm birth in women with a weak or short cervix. A stitch is placed around the cervix to keep it closed during pregnancy.

Who Needs Cervical Cerclage?

  • A history of second-trimester miscarriages
  • Painless cervical dilation in previous pregnancy
  • Short cervix detected on ultrasound
  • Previous preterm birth due to cervical incompetence

When Is It Done?

Cerclage is usually done between 12 to 16 weeks of pregnancy, or later if needed based on ultrasound findings.
